Vedanta Limited closed at ₹250 on 14 October 2026, down 2.46% on the NSE. The figures below use the latest completed trading session, not an intraday live quote. Since four businesses demerged in 2026, comparisons with old Vedanta prices require corporate action adjustments.

Vedanta is a metals and mining group with exposure to zinc, lead, silver, copper, ferro alloys and emerging minerals. Its holding in Hindustan Zinc is part of the continuing business. Aluminium, upstream oil and gas, iron and steel, and power now trade as separate listed entities.
Q2 FY27 continuing operations revenue reflects the new business. The segment amounts below are selected reported revenues, not a fully reconciled segment mix calculation, because intersegment adjustments and other activities affect the consolidated total.
| Q2 FY27 Continuing Activity | Reported Revenue (₹ crore) | Share of ₹26,356 crore* |
|---|---|---|
| Zinc, lead and silver, India | 14,525 | 55.1% |
| Copper | 9280 | 5.2% |
| Zinc, International | 1,730 | 6.6% |
| Other/net reconciliation | 501 | 19% |
(Indicative shares are calculated from selected reported segment amounts; the balancing item is derived, not a separately disclosed business segment. IBEF identifies infrastructure, manufacturing and electrification as drivers for Indian metal demand.)
Vedanta reported growing revenue and EBITDA from FY24 to FY26. Its historical consolidated accounts, however, cover businesses transferred out during the May to June 2026 demerger. These figures show the group’s history and are not projected unchanged onto the remaining VEDL entity.
| Historical Consolidated Figures | FY24 | FY25 | FY26 |
|---|---|---|---|
| Revenue (₹ crore) | 1,41,793 | 1,50,725 | 1,74,075 |
| EBITDA (₹ crore) | 36,455 | 43,541 | 55,976 |
| Adjusted EBITDA margin | 30% | 34% | 39% |
| PAT after exceptional items (₹ crore) | 7,539 | 20,535 | 25,096 |
| PAT before exceptional items (₹ crore) | 11,254 | 19,399 | 28,595 |

For Q1 FY27, continuing operations revenue rose 53.6% year on year to ₹24,205 crore, with associated EBITDA of ₹8,469 crore. Net profit from continuing operations was ₹5,294 crore. The figures relate to the residual business and remain subject to commodity prices and quarterly volatility.
Vedanta Limited delivered a record financial performance in Q2 FY27, with consolidated revenue reaching ₹25,812 crore, a 57% increase year-on-year. Driven by higher commodity prices, favorable foreign exchange, and robust production volumes across segments, the company posted a record quarterly EBITDA of ₹9,938 crore with a 60% margin. Profit after tax surged 151% year-on-year to a record ₹6,202 crore, while strong cash flows enabled a significant reduction in net debt to ₹3,675 crore.
The 14 October snapshot provides a consistent market data basis for the ratios below. Its displayed sector P/E was 10.03x. Different platforms may use consolidated versus standalone figures and different post demerger treatments, particularly for trailing earnings and debt.
| Ratio | Vedanta |
|---|---|
| P/E (TTM) | 5.62x |
| P/B | 1.97x |
| ROE | 55.24% |
| ROCE | 20.79% |
| Debt to equity | 0.54x |
| FY26 debt to equity | 1.2x |
(Source: ET Money)
The FY26 report separately gives approximately 32% ROCE and 47% return on net worth under its methodology. Those historical consolidated ratios are not directly interchangeable with the quoted market data ratios after the split. A lower P/E alone does not indicate valuation.
On a technical basis, the share price of Vedanta has shown a pattern of lower highs and lower lows on a weekly time frame. A near-term support level has been noted at ₹248.
A resistance level has been noted at ₹271. A move beyond this level would represent a change from the current pattern of lower highs and lower lows.
As of October 15, Vedanta is trading below its short term, medium term and long term moving averages on the daily chart. On the weekly chart, the stock is trading below its 10-week and 30-week moving averages and above the 100-week moving average.
The latest fully verified quarterly ownership breakdown available for this review is June 2026. Promoter ownership fell while foreign institutions increased their stake; domestic institutional participation declined over the same four-quarter period.
| Holder Category | Sep 2025 | Dec 2025 | Mar 2026 | Jun 2026 |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Promoters | 56.38% | 56.38% | 56.38% | 54.72% |
| FIIs | 11.08% | 12.15% | 13.93% | 15.78% |
| DIIs (including MFs) | 16.25% | 15.31% | 13.43% | 10.83% |
| Retail and others | 16.28% | 16.17% | 16.25% | 18.67% |
(Sources: ET Money; NSE)
Foreign ownership rose by 4.70 percentage points from September 2025 to June 2026, while DII ownership declined by 5.42 points. Institutional ownership data is not an earnings forecast.
Hindalco and Hindustan Copper provide non-ferrous metal exposure; Hindustan Zinc is operationally relevant but is also a Vedanta subsidiary, so it is not a wholly independent peer. P/E ratios across copper, aluminium, zinc and silver businesses reflect different margins and commodity cycles.
| Company | Business Exposure | P/E (TTM) | ROCE |
|---|---|---|---|
| Vedanta | Zinc, silver, metals | 5.62x | 20.79% |
| Hindalco | Aluminium / Novelis | 14.81x | 13.82% |
| Hindustan Zinc* | Zinc, lead, silver | 16.50x | 70.60% |
| Hindustan Copper | Copper mining | 49.23x | 42.47% |
(Sources: ET Money)
Vedanta’s quoted multiple is below those of these named companies. Post-demergmer comparability, non-controlling interests and one-off accounting effects are relevant to the comparison.
Lower zinc and silver realisations, higher energy costs or adverse currency movements could reduce operating profit. The diversified pre-demerger results no longer provide the same buffer as the current narrower business mix.
The old group had ₹53,254 crore net debt at March 2026, although liabilities were allocated through the reorganisation. Vedanta’s continuing entity reports its Q2 FY27 leverage separately; free cash flow and debt servicing are data points, and old totals are not directly relevant.
Mine permissions, royalties, environmental obligations, overseas operations and project commissioning can affect volumes or costs. Concentration in Hindustan Zinc also means that subsidiary performance and minority shareholders’ interests are relevant.
Zinc and silver cash generation, the leverage of the remaining business, and dividends supported by recurring cash flows are factors linked to future results. Q2 FY27 continuing operations net profit was ₹6,202 crore; one quarter does not by itself indicate a post-split earnings base.
A valuation based on the next few continuing operations results, capital expenditure, net debt and commodity cycle sensitivity is a different basis from applying FY26 group earnings.
The demerger became effective on May 01, 2026, and the four carved-out businesses began trading in June. Eligible holders received one share in each new business for every existing Vedanta share, while retaining the original VEDL holding. This is why past share price charts and historical financial statements need careful interpretation.
| Listed Company | Principal Business after Demerger |
|---|---|
| Vedanta Limited (VEDL) | Hindustan Zinc holding, base metals and developing businesses |
| Vedanta Aluminium Metal (VAML) | Aluminium; includes BALCO exposure |
| Vedanta Oil & Gas (VOGL) | Cairn upstream oil and gas |
| Vedanta Iron & Steel (VISL) | Iron ore and steel operations |
| Vedanta Power (VEDPOWER) | Independent power generation |

Vedanta declared ₹34 per share during FY26, following ₹43.50 in FY25. On 8 October 2026, it announced a first FY27 interim dividend of ₹5 per share, with 14 October as the record date. Dividing FY26’s ₹34 by the current ₹250 price gives 13.6%, but that backward-looking figure spans a demerger and is not a yield for the continuing company. The newly announced ₹5 alone equals 2% of the reference price.
| Dividend Reference | Amount | Interpretation |
|---|---|---|
| FY25 declared | ₹43.50/share | Old group structure |
| FY26 declared | ₹34.00/share | Old group structure |
| FY27 first interim | ₹5.00/share | 14 Oct 2026 record date |
Public shareholding summaries show zero declared direct promoter share pledge in the June 2026 quarter. Historical group level financing is a separate matter, and a current direct VEDL share pledge is not indicated without a corresponding filing.
Metal prices are linked to Vedanta’s earnings. The following distinction is relevant after the demerger: aluminium and upstream oil and gas remain relevant to the wider Vedanta shareholder ecosystem, but their operating results now belong primarily to separate quoted companies, not continuing VEDL.
| Commodity | Main Earnings Channel | Current Listed Exposure |
|---|---|---|
| Zinc/lead/silver | LME prices, volume and mining costs | Vedanta via Hindustan Zinc |
| Aluminium | Aluminium price, alumina and power costs | Primarily VAML |
| Oil & gas | Oil price, production and levies | Primarily VOGL |
Higher zinc and silver prices can raise margins and cash generation at the continuing business, while a commodity downturn can have the opposite effect. IBEF highlights the role of infrastructure, electrification and industrial demand, but these longer-term themes do not remove near-term price volatility.

Yes. Four businesses were separately listed in June 2026 alongside the continuing Vedanta Limited.
Vedanta has historically paid large dividends, including ₹34 in FY26. The dividend policy after the demerger and sustainable cash flow are separate from the old yield.
The June 2026 shareholding disclosures indicate zero direct promoter pledge. Subsequent stock exchange disclosures show any changes.
