About Suzlon Energy: Business Model, Revenue Mix and Market Position

Headquartered in Pune, Suzlon operates across wind turbine technology, turbine manufacture, project execution and operation and maintenance (O&M). Its Suzlon 2.0 structure groups the business into renewable technology, development, projects and asset management. Suzlon reports more than 22 GW of installed wind capacity across 17 countries and an estimated 28% cumulative share of India’s installed wind turbine base.

    Foundry and forging596
    Other operations8
    Consolidated revenue from operations16,679

(Source: Suzlon FY26 audited consolidated segment reporting)

Wind turbine generators generated about 82% of gross segment revenue, while O&M contributed roughly 14.5%. The service business provides recurring maintenance activity alongside the project-driven turbine business. Because the table includes intersegment transactions, gross segment revenue is not identical to consolidated revenue.

India installed 6.1 GW of wind capacity in FY26, according to IBEF. Government data show that total operational wind capacity reached 58.52 GW by 31 August 2026. Growth in installations enlarges the addressable market, but not every awarded project immediately becomes revenue for Suzlon.

Suzlon Energy Financial Performance: Revenue, PAT and Margins (FY24 to FY26)

Suzlon reported revenue growth across FY24 to FY26. Consolidated revenue moved from ₹6,497 crore to ₹16,679 crore, alongside higher turbine volumes and O&M activity.

Reported PAT moved from ₹660 crore in FY24 to ₹3,163 crore in FY26, and deferred tax credits contributed to the net result in FY25 and FY26. Earnings quality is therefore linked to EBITDA, cash generation and profit before tax alongside PAT.

In Q1 FY27, revenue grew 23% year-on-year to ₹3,819 crore, while EBITDA was ₹595 crore compared with ₹599 crore a year earlier. The EBITDA margin moved to 15.6% from 19.2%, and PAT declined to ₹305 crore from ₹324 crore. In this quarter, higher revenue did not lead to an equal change in profit.

Key Ratios: P/E, P/B, ROE, ROCE and Debt to Equity vs Sector Average

The company reported an FY26 ROE of 39.7% and an ROCE of 34.2%. The FY26 debt-to-equity ratio, based on the company’s ₹264 crore borrowings and ₹9,464 crore net worth, was about 0.03x.

The Capital Goods sector contains businesses with different margin and growth profiles, and there is no single like-for-like sector average for turbine manufacturers. For context, Inox Wind was around 32.1x P/E, and Siemens India was around 76.4x. Suzlon’s reported P/E is affected by deferred tax credits, so its headline multiple may not be directly comparable with those of other companies.

Suzlon Energy Technical Analysis: Support, Resistance and Moving Averages

On a technical basis, the share price of Suzlon Energy has shown a pattern of lower highs and lower lows on a weekly time frame. A near-term support level has been noted at ₹37.16.

A resistance level has been noted at ₹44.26. A move beyond this level would represent a change from the current pattern of lower highs and lower lows.

As of October 7, Suzlon Energy is trading below its short-term, medium-term, and long-term moving averages on the daily chart. On the weekly chart, the stock is trading below its 10-week, 30-week, and 100-week moving averages.

Shareholding Pattern: Promoter, FII and DII Trend over 4 Quarters

Suzlon’s disclosed holdings show gradual institutional changes across the four quarters ending June 2026. The promoter percentage stayed almost unchanged, while both foreign and domestic institutional ownership were higher than in September 2025.

FII holdings increased by 1.45% and DII holdings by 0.98% over this period. These changes do not indicate whether institutional buying will continue. September 2026 quarter filings were not yet available in the verified historical table.

Peer Comparison within the Capital Goods Sector

Inox Wind is a more direct listed comparison for Suzlon’s turbine and project business. Siemens India has exposure to a broader range of industrial equipment and therefore provides sector context rather than a like-for-like valuation benchmark.

    Suzlon EnergyWind turbines / O&M16.4234.2%
    Inox WindWind turbines / EPC32.110.6%
    Siemens IndiaIndustrial technology76.421.4%

    (Source: Screener)

Suzlon reported an FY26 ROCE of 34.2%, compared with 10.6% for Inox Wind and 21.4% for Siemens India. Earnings tax credits, business mix and differences in revenue recognition limit the usefulness of simple P/E comparisons. Delivery volumes, order margins and cash conversion are additional data points for comparison.

    Key Risk Factors

    Execution and Commissioning Delays

Wind projects depend on land availability, evacuation infrastructure, contractors and customer readiness. Suzlon delivered 2,456 MW in FY26, while commissioning was 744 MW; the two measures represent different operational milestones. A persistent gap can affect cash conversion and the timing of new orders.

    Margin Pressure and Working Capital

Q1 FY27 EBITDA margin declined despite revenue growth. Transport costs, competitive bids, project scope, new platform investment and receivables can create pressure. Rising inventories or receivable days without corresponding cash generation could affect the operating trend.

    Valuation, Policy and Shareholding Risks

Changes in wind procurement, grid connectivity, interest rates or investor appetite for capital goods can alter demand or the valuation multiple. Promoter ownership of about 11.7% and any future equity dilution are additional factors for shareholders.

Suzlon Energy Business Position and Key Monitoring Points

Suzlon has moved from a business with reported debt in earlier years to a net cash position and has increased turbine deliveries. Its service arm adds recurring activity, and the company reports an order book. The latest quarterly margin contraction, execution dependencies and the difference between statutory profit and underlying cash generation are additional factors.

The company tracks factors such as turbine commissioning, operating cash flow, margins, and a valuation based on recurring earnings.

Suzlon Order Book, WTG Deliveries and Execution Rate

The company reported 5,697 MW of cumulative orders in March 2026, 5,933 MW by June, and 6,135 MW in its July presentation after including the Waaree Group order. About 84% of orders came from PSU and commercial or industrial customers; roughly 32% involved EPC work. Later September orders, including a 200 MW Ayana contract, were announced separately and cannot simply be added without accounting for concurrent deliveries.

WTG deliveries moved from 710 MW in FY24 to 1,550 MW in FY25 and 2,456 MW in FY26. Q1 FY27 deliveries were 506 MW, up from 444 MW one year earlier. Commissioning was 269 MW in Q1 FY27 compared with 117 MW in Q1 FY26. Tracking order intake, equipment deliveries and commissioning separately gives a view of the operating cycle.

    Suzlon’s Debt-Free Turnaround: What Changed

Suzlon reduced debt through restructuring, equity capital raising and commercial performance. The company’s investor presentation showed ₹264 crore in borrowings and ₹2,648 crore in defined cash and cash equivalent balances as of 31 March 2026, resulting in net cash of ₹2,384 crore. On 30 June 2026, net cash was ₹2,322 crore.

The expression “debt-free turnaround” is therefore shorthand for net cash rather than the literal absence of all borrowings. A lower debt position reduces financial pressure, although increased working capital or investment needs can still affect future cash flow.

    Suzlon Share Price History

Suzlon’s share price has varied over two decades. Business Standard records a low around ₹1.51 on 26 March 2020 and a historic high exceeding ₹430 in January 2008, based on its displayed historical price series. The October 2026 share price of ₹38.34 was above the 2020 low and below the 2008 high.

The price increase after the 2020 low accompanied debt restructuring, renewed orders and higher turbine volumes. Historical returns are not an indicator of future returns, as dilution, valuation and business cycles affect per share results.
