Screener reports FY26 ROCE around 23.1%, while the company’s own Q4 FY26 measure was 26.2%; these use different definitions. IT services firms differ in margins, revenue mix, cash generation and growth. Tech Mahindra’s operating margin is below some large cap peers. Sustainable EBIT margins, return ratios and free cash flow conversion are data points, in addition to a sector average P/E, which is not a fair value benchmark.

Peer Comparison within the IT Sector

Infosys and HCLTech are reference points for Tech Mahindra’s scale, enterprise IT mix and margin profile. TCS is another competitor; its larger size limits direct comparisons. The table compares operating features and does not include valuation multiples.

The comparison uses Q2 FY27 results for Tech Mahindra, TCS, HCLTech and Wipro. Infosys had not announced its Q2 FY27 results as of October 16, 2026, so its Q1 FY27 figures are shown for reference.

Tech Mahindra’s EBIT margin was 14.8% in Q2 FY27, compared with TCS at 24.0%, HCLTech at 18.2% and Wipro at 16.5%. Its constant currency revenue growth of 7.2% year on year compares with TCS’s 2.8%, HCLTech’s 2.6% and Wipro’s 0.6%. Revenue growth and the EBIT margin gap with larger IT services companies are data points that may be tracked. Infosys has been excluded from the latest quarter performance comparison because its Q2 results are pending.

    Key Risk Factors

Slower Client Spending and Deal Conversion: Telecom and large enterprise clients can postpone discretionary transformation spending when budgets tighten. Announced deal TCV is not equivalent to recognised revenue: transition costs, implementation schedules and cancellations may reduce the near term contribution.

Margin Execution and AI Disruption: Project Fortius has been linked to higher profitability, and sustaining higher utilisation, automation savings and delivery efficiency while funding AI investments is a risk. Price compression, wage inflation, higher onsite staffing costs or delayed project ramp ups could interrupt margin expansion.

Concentration, Currency and Valuation Risks: Communications exposure creates sensitivity to operators’ network spending cycles. Overseas revenue also brings foreign exchange, regulatory and geopolitical risks. A valuation linked to FY27 turnaround expectations could decline if growth or operating margins fall short.

    Tech Mahindra Stock Outlook

Tech Mahindra’s Q2 FY27 revenue increased 15.6% year on year and EBIT margin was 14.8%. The company maintained its FY27 EBIT margin ambition of 15%, and reported new deal wins of USD 1,023 million.

The company announced a ₹15 interim dividend and proposed a 1:1 bonus issue. Deal execution, client spending, cash generation and margins are factors linked to future results, as is the stock’s valuation.

The Margin Turnaround Programme and Project Fortius

Tech Mahindra introduced a three year transformation roadmap in April 2024 under CEO Mohit Joshi. Project Fortius is the operational and cost productivity component. The strategy targets delivery efficiency, portfolio integration, resource utilisation, offshore leverage, pricing discipline and a more profitable service mix. Management has set an FY27 EBIT margin ambition of 15%, along with revenue growth above the peer average and ROCE above 30%.

The disclosed quarterly EBIT margin progression is: 10.5% in Q4 FY25, 11.1% in Q1 FY26, 12.1% in Q2 FY26, 13.1% in Q3 FY26, 13.8% in Q4 FY26, 14.4% in Q1 FY27 and 14.8% in Q2 FY27, which the company describes as the twelfth consecutive quarter of margin expansion. The Q2 FY27 margin of 14.8% compares with the FY27 ambition of 15%; project execution, utilisation and cost discipline are factors linked to margins at this level.

Telecom Vertical Dependence and the 5G Capex Cycle

Tech Mahindra’s communications business is built on relationships with telecom operators and network ecosystem clients. Revenue opportunities include 5G network transformation, IT and network modernisation, cloud native operations, customer experience and operational automation. However, telecom spending is cyclical: operators can delay network upgrades as financing conditions, spectrum investment or subscriber economics change.

The company is also expanding enterprise services across communications, manufacturing and BFSI. Reported communications growth, telecom contract ramps and client concentration are data points relative to other verticals. Growing 5G adoption does not necessarily translate into an immediate increase in vendor revenue or margins.

Tech Mahindra Dividend History and Payout

Tech Mahindra declared a total dividend of ₹51 per share for FY26, including a final dividend of ₹36 per share. On October 15, 2026, the company announced an interim dividend of ₹15 per equity share for FY27, with October 23 fixed as the record date. The board also recommended a 1:1 bonus issue, subject to shareholder approval. Under the proposal, eligible shareholders will receive one additional equity share for every existing share held. The record date for the bonus issue will be announced separately.

Mahindra & Mahindra’s FY26 integrated annual report states that Tech Mahindra returned 91% of free cash flow as dividends during FY26. This is a group report disclosure, not Screener’s dividend payout ratio: payout as a percentage of profit is a different measure. The company’s stated capital return ambition is relevant alongside its reinvestment requirements, sustainable cash generation and any future board decisions.
