Broader markets also remained under pressure during the session. The Nifty Midcap 100 index declined by 0.98% or 592.50 points, closing at 59,784.85. The Nifty Smallcap 100 index fell by 0.48% to close at 18,007.15. This movement reflects profit booking following the recent strong rally in midcap and smallcap stocks.

Most sectoral indices closed in the red, indicating broad-based weakness across the market. Nifty Metal declined by 2.12%, while PSU Banks and Realty also recorded notable losses. FMCG and Commodities sectors fell by 1.35% and 1.11% respectively. Despite overall weakness, some sectors managed to hold ground. Nifty IT rose by 0.37%, while Nifty Pharma gained 0.03%. These sectors showed relative resilience compared to the broader market.

In currency and volatility indicators, the US Dollar versus Indian Rupee stood at 94.87, registering a marginal uptick of 0.02, while the India VIX rose sharply by 1.02 points, reflecting a surge of 5.86% during the session to close at 18.46.

On the stock-specific front, Bajaj Auto emerged as the top gainer, rising by 5.19%. On the losing side, Tata Motor Passenger Vehicles declined by 2.92%.

The market remained range-bound with heightened volatility, influenced by external factors such as crude prices, institutional flows, and expiry-related movements. Broad-based selling and sectoral pressure dominated the session, while selective resilience was observed in IT and Pharma stocks.
