The BSE PSU index is designed to follow the performance of publicly-listed companies in India where the government (central or state) has a majority ownership interest.
Members of the BSE PSU Index are listed companies on the Bombay Stock Exchange that are majority-owned by government entities and meet certain criteria for size, liquidity and public float.
The BSE PSU index is calculated using a float-adjusted market capitalisation weighting method and a divisor to account for corporate actions. Constituents are reviewed on a semi-annual basis.
The objective is to provide a transparent benchmark reflecting the performance of government-owned companies, helping track trends and behaviour within the public sector segment of the equity market.
Tracking the BSE PSU index provides broad exposure to PSU companies, can assist with diversification in public-sector portfolios, and can support benchmarking of funds that invest in the public sector.
