Tata Motors Ltd announced a big order win on Sunday. The company said that it has secured orders for over 3,400 electric commercial vehicles. This order covers multiple transport segments. These include roughly 2,000 small trucks and pick-up vehicles. There are also orders for 900 heavy trucks and 500 electric buses. Many industries like steel and cement are now making this switch. Even e-commerce firms are moving to electric power for their deliveries.

Expanding Across Industries and Applications

The new orders will serve various sectors like e-commerce, consumer goods delivery, and local logistics. Businesses will also deploy these electric vehicles in difficult operating areas. These include mining, cement logistics, steel transport, and airport tarmac operations.

Over the past 12 months, the firm has introduced several new models to handle different types of heavy work. For small cargo distribution, the firm relies on models like the Ace Pro EV, Ace EV, and Intra EV. To move heavier cargo, the company expanded its line with the Ultra EV range for loads between 7 and 12 tonnes. It has also introduced the Prima EV 55T tractor and the Prima EV 28T tipper for heavy mining and construction tasks. For passenger transport, the Starbus EV and Ultra EV models handle public transit inside and between cities.

3,800 Electric Buses and 17,000 eSCVs Already on the Road

The shift to electric transport requires real-world data and good supporting infrastructure. Tata Motors Ltd has an operational fleet of electric buses totalling 3,800 units that run across various cities in India. These buses have covered a total distance of more than 55 crore kilometres. This running history gives the engineering teams vital data to improve vehicle life and battery efficiency. Additionally, the company has over 17,000 small electric commercial vehicles working on the roads.
