Indian benchmark indices witnessed a volatile trading session, largely influenced by domestic developments surrounding the state assembly election results. Despite intraday profit booking from the day’s high near 24,290 on the Nifty, the market managed to close on a positive note, supported by favourable global cues and a cooling in crude oil prices.

At the close, the Sensex gained 355.90 points, or 0.46%, to settle at 77,269.40. The Nifty advanced 121.75 points, or 0.51%, to close at 24,119.30.

Buying interest remained strong in the broader markets. The Nifty Midcap 100 index rose 0.63% to close at 60,159.75. Meanwhile, the Nifty Smallcap index gained 0.70% to close at 18,132.50, indicating broad-based participation across the market.

In the currency market, the US Dollar against the Indian Rupee stood at 95.06, marking an uptick of 0.20%. Meanwhile, India VIX declined 0.87% to settle at 18.30, indicating a slight cooling in volatility.

In stock-specific action, Adani Ports emerged as the top gainer, rising 5.41%. On the other hand, Kotak Bank declined 3.18%, making it one of the top losers of the session.

Overall, the session reflected resilience in broader markets, with sectoral divergence led by strength in Pharma, Healthcare, and Metals, while weakness persisted in IT and Banking.
