Markets Extend Gains for Fourth Day; IT Stocks Lead Rally

    Indian benchmark indices extended gains for the fourth consecutive session on April 7. Sensex rose 509 points and Nifty gained 155 points, supported by IT stocks and easing crude oil prices, while investors remained cautious ahead of RBI policy and global developments.

    Indian benchmark indices extended their gains for the fourth consecutive session on April 7, supported by a marginal cooling in crude oil prices and strong buying interest in IT stocks. However, volatility remained elevated due to the weekly expiry of the Nifty.

    Benchmark Indices Performance

    At the closing bell, the Sensex advanced 509.73 points, or 0.69%, to settle at 74,616.58.

    Meanwhile, the Nifty gained 155.40 points, or 0.68%, to close at 23,123.65.

    Sectoral Performance

    On the sectoral front, most indices ended in the green, with the exception of Consumer Durables and PSU Banks.

    Among the top performers:

    The Information Technology index rose 2.5%

    The Metal index gained 1.5%

    The Realty index advanced 1.7%

    The Media index added 1%

    Broader Market Performance

    In the broader markets:

    The Nifty Midcap index edged up 0.3%

    The Smallcap index ended flat

    Key Triggers Ahead

    Looking ahead, market participants will closely track key global and domestic triggers. These include the deadline set by U.S. President Donald Trump for a potential Iran deal at 8 PM Eastern Time, along with the Reserve Bank of India’s monetary policy outcome scheduled for April 8.

    Stock-Specific Action

    Among individual stocks, Wipro was one of the top performers, gaining around +3.71%.

    On the other hand, Dr Reddy saw the biggest decline, losing -1.63%.
