As quoted in the press release from Larsen & Toubro (NSE Exchange filings), the transportation infrastructure division of the company has secured a significant order from the National High Speed Rail Corporation Ltd for the design, supply, construction, testing and commissioning of 156 route kilometres of high-speed ballastless track under Package T1 of the Mumbai–Ahmedabad High Speed Rail corridor. The scope of work includes 135 kilometres of elevated viaduct track and over 21 kilometres of underground track between the Bandra-Kurla Complex in Mumbai and Zaroli village in Gujarat. The award of the contract is on a design-build, lump-sum basis.

Large Order value is estimated between Rs 2,500 crore and Rs 5,000 crore.

The project consists of elevated and underground sections of the bullet train route. Elevated sections total 135 kilometres, while underground sections more than 21 kilometres. These will coincide with civil packages including the required viaduct and tunnel lengths. Japanese Shinkansen J Slab track technology allows train speeds of up to 320 kilometres per hour, while ensuring an improved passenger ride, serviceability and longevity.

The L&T share price stands at ₹3,595.80 per share on BSE as of September 15, 2025, at 2:55 PM IST, the share price was up 0.43%, with the trading reaction showing some investor attention on the company’s expanding footprint in the bullet train project.
This win makes L&T accountable for over half of the track works in the Mumbai-Ahmedabad High Speed Rail corridor, in addition to its earlier award for Package T3 in 2022. This order increases L&T's expertise in ballastless track systems and increases the company's skills in managing large-scale rail infrastructure projects. It will also add a significant order to its total order book and improve L&T's business in the transport infrastructure field.
