Stock/Share Market Timings in India

The Indian stock market has three parts, and each one has its own hours that you need to know to trade well.

Timing Before Opening (9:00 a.m. to 9:15 a.m.)

  • 9:00 a.m. to 9:08 a.m.: Place, change, or cancel orders, with priority given to those that are already in the system.

  • 9:08 a.m. to 9:12 a.m.: Prices are set by matching orders from many people.

  • 9:12 a.m. to 9:15 a.m.: This is the transition time before normal trading starts. No new orders or changes are allowed.

Normal Session: 9:15 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

  • The main trading time when trades happen depends on the supply and demand for assets.

  • Prices change based on how the market feels and what investors are doing throughout this session.

Session after closure (3:30 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.)

  • 3:30 p.m. to 3:40 p.m.: The closing price is the weighted average of the prices from 3:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.

  • 3:40 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.: Investors can make orders for the next day, which will be filled at the opening price.

Orders for Aftermarket

Orders that are placed after the market closes are put in queue and carried out at the opening price on the next trading day.

Muhurat Trading

There is a special one-hour session on Diwali called Muhurat Trading that is quite good for investors.

Muhurat Trading is set for Friday, November 1, 2024. The exact times will be given out closer to the occasion.

Equity intraday, equity delivery, and F&O trading happen every weekday, but not on weekends or holidays declared by the NSE.
