This development marks a significant milestone in IndiGo's international ambitions. Until last year, the airline focused solely on narrow-body aircraft for domestic and short-haul international routes. The decision to add widebody planes like the A350 is intended to strengthen its presence on intercontinental routes, including Europe, Asia-Pacific, and potentially North America.
The expanded order reflects IndiGo’s confidence in sustained passenger growth and increasing demand for long-haul connectivity. The A350-900’s range and fuel efficiency are expected to complement IndiGo’s evolving global network strategy.
With this order, IndiGo's future fleet now includes 60 widebody jets and 1,340 narrow-body aircraft. The airline appears set to transform from a primarily regional carrier into a significant global player in the coming decades.
