As quoted in the press release of Titagarh Rail Systems Limited (NSE Exchange Filings), the organization has finalized the handover of its first homegrown Diving Support Craft, DSC A20, to the Indian Navy. It is the first of a total of five that are being built under the Ministry of Defence’s Make in India mandate. With this delivery, Titagarh has enhanced its engagement within the Indian marine ecosystem. The craft will facilitate support for diving operations, training and even underwater maintenance, thereby enhancing the Navy's operational capabilities in coastal and harbour areas.

The commissioning of DSC A20 occurred with senior officials of the Southern Naval Command in attendance. The ship would assist clearance diving teams with underwater operations, such as repairs, maintenance and salvage operations in and around the harbour. The ship has also been built to serve as a training platform for Navy divers, to develop capacity and readiness in the diving cadre.
DSC A20 is designed with a catamaran-type hull to provide steadiness and operational efficiency. The vessel is 32.9 metres (108 feet) long and 13 metres (43 feet) wide. It has the capacity to support continuous operations for a period of 72 hours at economical speed with 25% fuel reserve. With two 1,342 kW engines, it has a cruise speed of approximately 11 knots and accommodates up to 18 crew members.
The importance of the delivery of DSC A20 is that it is the first commissioned vessel of the Indian Navy constructed and delivered by a private shipyard in Bengal. It shows that Titagarh Rail Systems Limited is expanding its presence in the defence and maritime space. The company’s Shipbuilding and Maritime Systems Division has demonstrated the capability to complete complex projects to the satisfaction of armed forces standards.
