Indian Markets Close Higher on GST Optimism and Fed Rate Cut Hopes

Indian benchmark indices extended their winning streak for the fifth consecutive session on August 20, closing on a strong note and further reinforcing the prevailing bullish momentum.

Market Highlights

Investor sentiment remained upbeat, supported by the GST reforms, while expectations of a potential U.S. Federal Reserve rate cut provided additional strength to the rally.

The Sensex gained 213.45 points (0.26%) to close at 81,857.84.

The Nifty 50 advanced 69.90 points (0.28%) to settle at 25,050.55.

The broader markets also followed the positive trend, with the Midcap index up 0.4% and the Small-cap index rising 0.3%.
