Bhamashah Yojana – Features, Objective, Eligibility & How to Apply

Governments at both the central and state levels in India have introduced various welfare schemes aimed at empowering women socially, economically, and financially. These initiatives aim to enhance access to education, healthcare, financial inclusion, and livelihood opportunities for women across diverse backgrounds. By promoting gender equality and providing direct benefit transfers, such schemes enable women to lead more secure and independent lives.

Among these, the Bhamashah Yojana, launched by the Rajasthan government, stands out as a woman-centric initiative designed to ensure the transparent and efficient delivery of welfare benefits.

What is the Bhamashah Yojana?

The Bhamashah Yojana is a direct benefit transfer (DBT) scheme introduced by the Government of Rajasthan to ensure transparent and efficient delivery of financial and non-financial services to citizens. Launched in 2014, this initiative aims to empower women and promote financial inclusion by linking government benefits directly to beneficiaries' bank accounts.

The scheme uses biometric identification through Aadhaar and a dedicated Bhamashah Card to transfer benefits like pensions, scholarships, employment wages, and health insurance coverage directly to the family’s designated female head.

Please note that as of 2020, the Bhamashah Yojana has been merged into the Jan Aadhaar Yojana to simplify service delivery through a single ID system. However, its features and objectives continue to influence state welfare schemes.

Eligibility Criteria for Bhamashah Yojana

The scheme targets all permanent residents of Rajasthan, with a specific focus on women and economically weaker sections. To qualify for the Bhamashah Yojana, applicants must meet the following conditions:

  • Children should be enrolled in government schools or colleges, especially if they are preparing for entrance or coaching examinations.

  • Adults seeking financial support to establish small businesses or start-ups are eligible.

  • Women seeking to enhance their social and economic status may apply for support under the scheme.

  • Individuals undergoing medical treatment and in need of financial assistance for healthcare procedures may also be eligible for consideration.

Key Objectives of Bhamashah Yojana

The Bhamashah Yojana was designed to streamline the distribution of benefits and enhance women's participation in economic activities.

Main Objectives Include:

  • Promoting women’s financial independence by assigning financial rights to the female head of the family

  • Providing direct transfers of government welfare funds to beneficiaries’ bank accounts

  • Ensuring transparency and accountability in benefit distribution

  • Integrating multiple welfare schemes through one unified platform

  • Creating a verified database for easier access to state services

Features of Bhamashah Yojana

The scheme features several unique administrative and financial aspects that distinguish it.

  • Single Family Card: One card issued per family with the woman as head

  • Bank Account Integration: Each card is linked to a bank account for direct benefit transfers
