Metals Lead the Rally as Markets End Higher today

Benchmark indices closed the day on a positive note, advancing over half a percent on Wednesday, September 3, supported by strong buying in metal stocks.

  • The Sensex gained 409 points (0.51%), settling at 80,567.

  • The Nifty rose 135 points (0.55%), closing at 24,715.

Sectoral Performance

  • Top Performer: Nifty Metal, up over 3%, led the rally.

  • Other Gainers: PSU Bank, Pharma, and Auto indices added 0.7%–1%.

  • Moderate Gains: FMCG, Energy, Realty, and Infra registered small upticks.

  • Underperformers: IT declined 0.8%, while Media closed flat.

  • Tata Steel, JSW Steel and Hindalco also posted strong gains, lifted by a weaker dollar and China’s plan to cut steel production between 2025 and 2026, a move expected to reduce excess capacity and support global steel prices.

  • Tata Steel emerged as one of the top performers, surging 5.96%. On the flip side, Infosys (INFY) slipped 1.25%, making it the biggest drag among large-cap stocks.
