Rakesh Gangwal had announced his decision to divest his entire stake in IndiGo gradually over five years following his resignation from the company’s board in February 2022. His move came after a long-running corporate dispute with co-founder Rahul Bhatia, which led to legal proceedings and a revision of the company’s Articles of Association.

Date | Stake Sold | Value Raised (Rs.) |
Feb 2023 | 4% | 2,900 crore |
Aug 2023 | 3% | 2,802 crore |
Aug 2024 | 5.83% | 10,500 crore |
Mar 2025 | 6% | 6,786 crore |
May 2025 | 3.4% | 6,831 crore |
Following the end of his corporate feud with Bhatia in December 2021, IndiGo shareholders approved the removal of a clause that restricted share sales. This paved the way for Gangwal’s gradual exit. With this latest block deal, his holding is expected to fall below 10%, assuming full sale execution.
The upcoming block deal marks another milestone in Rakesh Gangwal’s phased divestment from Interglobe Aviation. Market participants will closely watch Interglobe aviation share price to gauge investor sentiment following this large transaction and any potential institutional buying that may follow.
