The National Stock Exchange (NSE) recently announced a revision to the expiry schedule for Nifty futures and options contracts. According to the NSE circular released on March 4, 2025, the Nifty expiry day for all F&O contracts was set to shift from Thursday to Monday. The new Monday expiry index structure was scheduled to take effect from April 5, 2025, affecting both weekly and monthly Nifty 50 expiry dates.

This change aimed to streamline the F&O expiry date across derivatives and enhance market efficiency. However, NSE later issued an update.

Latest Update: The implementation of the proposed revision has now been deferred until further notice. As per the NSE circular dated March 27, 2025, the plan to move the Nifty expiry date from Thursday to Monday has been paused. The existing expiry cycle continues until any further notification.

The following table outlines the proposed changes to the expiry days for index and stock derivatives contracts as per NSE’s earlier announcement. Though not currently in effect, this was the framework intended for contracts created on or after April 5, 2025:
