FIIs | 22,365.53 | 20,357.57 | +2,007.96 |

Despite the continued FII inflows, Indian equity markets experienced a downturn on May 8. The BSE Sensex declined by 412 points to close at 80,334.81, while the NSE Nifty50 fell by 140.6 points, settling at 24,273.80. The market faced pressure due to escalating geopolitical tensions and increased volatility, as indicated by a 10.21% rise in the India VIX to 21.01.
Sector-wise, FMCG, auto, banking, and pharma stocks were among the top losers, each declining nearly 2%. Conversely, IT and media sectors managed to post modest gains, demonstrating resilience amid broader market weakness.
For the year 2025 up to May 8, FIIs have been net sellers of Indian equities worth ₹1.19 lakh crore, while DIIs have net bought equities totaling ₹2.18 lakh crore.
The contrasting strategies of FIIs and DIIs reflect differing perspectives on market valuations and risk assessments. While FIIs continue to find value in Indian equities, DIIs appear to be adopting a more cautious approach amid prevailing uncertainties.
