As quoted on MoneyControl, SJVN has made headlines, as MoneyControl reports today, for synchronising the first 660 MW unit at its 1,320 MW Buxar Thermal Power Project with the national grid. You might think of “synchronisation” as technical jargon, but it is the spark that turns a built unit into actual power generated that goes to homes and businesses.

SJVN synchronizes the first 660 MW unit of the Buxar Thermal Power Project with the National Grid.
With a total estimated investment of ₹13,756.56 crore.
The project is constructed based on advanced supercritical technology, leading to better efficiency with lower emissions.
The plant is expected to produce approximately 9,829 million units, 85% of which will be for Bihar.
SJVN share price stands at ₹97.35 per share on the BSE as of 21 Aug 2025 at 15:30 PM IST.

The Buxar Thermal Power Project will be in the structure of 2x660 MW in Chausa (Buxar district) utilising supercritical boiler technology again not just a point of difference. It means improved fuel usage and lower carbon intensity in comparison to earlier generations.
The first 660 MW is live now, synced and generating. The second unit is apparently up next. When both units are operating, you're looking at almost 10 billion units per year, with 85% going into Bihar's grid.

For the economic growth you are tracking regionally, this is more than numbers. Bihar has been energy-deficient for so long! This plant will not only facilitate industrial growth but will also support the day-to-day power needs of the region. With coal/water infrastructure already available, the plant is now ready to get the region stoked up.
The capped investment of ₹13,756.56 crore indicates a significant capital commitment. Although this is not enveloped in promises, the commissioning of the first unit demonstrates the ability to execute. The fact that it is already contributing to the grid suggests that delivery is not stuck on paper, but is instead being delivered.
If you’re watching SJVN share price, know that such milestones don't always spike stock immediately. At ₹97.35, the share price is calmly reflecting reality. But having a working unit under your belt is always a healthier signal than mere announcements. For you, it's about seeing delivery, not just intent.
