As quoted by Economic Times, the monthly average balance in metro and urban ICICI Bank branches has been raised to ₹50,000 from the earlier ₹10,000. Semi-urban branches will now require ₹25,000, and rural branches ₹10,000. You might not feel the pinch if you usually maintain higher balances, but if your account runs lean during the month, you will need to be more watchful. On top of that, cash transaction limits, ATM usage fees, and other service charges are changing too.
From 1 August 2025, new metro and urban savings accounts need ₹50,000 monthly average balance.
Semi-urban customers need ₹25,000; rural customers ₹10,000.
Jan Dhan and BSBDA accounts remain exempt from this rule.
Cash transactions capped at three free per month, up to ₹1 lakh.
Non-ICICI ATM usage in metros costs ₹23 for financial and ₹8.5 for non-financial transactions after three uses.
The bank adds up your closing balance for each day in the month and divides by the number of days. If the average meets ₹50,000, you are fine, even if some days are below it. This means a few high-balance days can help offset lower ones, but you still need to plan so you do not fall short and pay penalties.
Branch location | New MAB from 1 Aug 2025 | Previous MAB |
Metro and urban | ₹50,000 | ₹10,000 |

Rural | ₹10,000 | ₹10,000 |
ICICI Bank now allows only three free cash transactions a month at branches or cash recyclers, up to ₹1 lakh in value. After that, it is ₹150 per transaction or ₹3.5 per ₹1,000, whichever is higher. Using non-ICICI ATMs in metro cities will cost ₹23 for financial transactions and ₹8.5 for non-financial transactions after the first three. Small changes like these can add up if you are not careful. ICICI Bank’s share price stands at ₹1,436.45 per share on the BSE as of 8 August 2025 at 15:30 PM IST.
