As quoted by PIB, the Government has sanctioned a haul change in Goods and Services Tax (GST) across a range of categories with new rates commencing from 22 September 2025. The new structure will mainly focus on consumer items, health care, agriculture and the automotive area to ease up compliance and relieve households and industries.

GST On Household And Food Items

Household items such as hair oil soap bars, shampoos, toothbrushes and toothpaste will now be taxed at 5%. UHT milk chena paneer and all Indian orated bread go to nil. Popular packaged food like namkeen noodles chocolates coffee and sauces are taxed at 5 %.

GST On Agriculture And Equipment

Agriculture equipment, such as sprinklers, harvesting equipment, and irrigation devices, will now incur 5% GST, down from 12%. This is anticipated to lessen costs for farmers while not disrupting the input tax credit chain for manufacturers.

GST On Automobiles

There have been significant changes for the automotive industry. Small cars, motorcycles up to 350 cc, three-wheelers, and buses, will come under the 18% slab instead of 28%. All auto parts will move to a single rate of 18%, as well.

GST On Healthcare And Insurance

Healthcare won't be receiving big changes, there are now 33 life-saving drugs that are exempt from GST, and many others will be reduced from 12% to 5%. Individual life and health insurance policies - including family and senior citizen covers - will be fully exempt, to help expand affordability for citizens.
