The Aadhaar card, an innovative endeavour launched by the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI), holds a prominent position within India’s identity framework. Featuring its distinctive 12-digit identifier, Aadhaar furnishes citizens with a dependable and widely accepted method of establishing identity, revolutionizing accessibility to a plethora of services. This biometrically fortified card interlinks an individual’s personal information, encompassing both demographic and biometric data, facilitating efficient authentication for financial transactions, government entitlements, and digital interactions. As it addresses concerns related to privacy and security, Aadhaar consistently plays a central role in shaping India’s digital environment, reshaping the realm of identity verification and the delivery of public services. Let us find how to link Voter ID with Aadhaar Card and why it so important?
A Voter ID card, also known as an Elector’s Photo Identity Card, is an official identification card issued by the Election Commission of India to eligible voters in the country. It serves as proof of identity and is primarily used during elections to exercise the right to vote. The Voter ID card includes the voter’s name, photograph, date of birth, and a unique voter identification number.
Here’s why it’s important to link Aadhaar with a Voter ID card:
Enhanced Security: Linking Aadhaar with Voter ID helps enhance the security and authenticity of the electoral roll. It reduces the chances of duplicate or fake voter IDs, making the electoral process more transparent and trustworthy.
Prevention of Voter Fraud: Aadhaar linkage helps in preventing voter fraud, such as individuals voting multiple times using different voter IDs. This strengthens the integrity of the electoral process.
Accurate Voter Lists: By linking Aadhaar, the Election Commission can maintain more accurate and up-to-date voter lists. This ensures that eligible voters are not left out and that deceased or relocated voters are removed from the list.
Targeted Service Delivery: Linking Aadhaar to Voter ID can also facilitate the targeted delivery of government services and subsidies to eligible voters. It enables the government to identify and provide benefits to specific demographics more efficiently.
Streamlined Voter Verification: During elections, voter verification becomes faster and more reliable when Aadhaar is linked to Voter ID. It simplifies the identification process for election officials and reduces the potential for errors.
Address Verification: Aadhaar cards often include the current address of the individual. Linking Aadhaar to Voter ID can help update and verify the voter’s address in the electoral roll, ensuring that they are assigned to the correct polling station.
The Aadhaar-Voter ID linkage, made possible via the National Voter Service Portal (NVSP) and the Voters’ Service Portal, is a significant step towards election correctness and openness. The NVSP is the designated platform for citizens of Tripura, Jammu Kashmir, Nagaland and Ladakh, whereas other states use the Voters’ Service Portal. From user registration through form submission, these websites ease the process. The program attempts to eliminate fraudulent voting and maintain accurate election rolls by cross-referencing Aadhaar and Voter ID credentials.
