    About Tokyo Finance Ltd

Tokyo Finance Limited was incorporated as a public limited company in November 1994. The company is part of the Tokyo Group, based in Mumbai, Maharashtra. The chief promoter of the company is Mr. Velji L. Shah, who serves as the Chairman of the Tokyo Group. The establishment of Tokyo Finance Limited was aimed at expanding the group’s presence in the financial services sector through activities related to lending, investment, and fund-based financial operations.

In the mid-1990s, the company began expanding its operations to include various financing and investment activities. It provided lease financing for equipment and capital goods, offering clients an alternative to traditional asset purchases. It also engaged in bill discounting, which involved providing liquidity to businesses by purchasing trade bills and invoices at a discount, thereby assisting in cash flow management.

Another key area of activity for the company was bridge financing, which involves providing short-term financial support to businesses awaiting long-term funding or completion of financial arrangements. This segment allowed Tokyo Finance Limited to cater to the immediate capital needs of companies involved in expansion, infrastructure development, or acquisition projects.

In February 1996, Tokyo Finance Limited launched a public issue to raise funds for its working capital requirements. The capital raised through this initiative was intended to strengthen the company’s operational base, enhance its capacity for lending and investment, and support its overall growth in the financial services sector. The funds were utilised to improve liquidity, expand financial activities, and meet ongoing commitments related to the company’s lending portfolio.

Following its establishment, the company sought registration with the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) to operate as a Non-Banking Financial Company (NBFC). The registration process was initiated in accordance with the RBI’s regulatory framework governing non-banking financial institutions in India. Once registered, the company became subject to compliance under the guidelines applicable to NBFCs, including capital adequacy norms, asset classification standards, and prudential regulations.

The classification as an NBFC enabled Tokyo Finance Limited to operate in the financial sector with greater flexibility. The company could engage in various credit and investment activities, allowing it to manage portfolios of loans, leases, and investments in financial instruments. Its business model was structured to cater to both retail and corporate clients, offering financial assistance tailored to specific business needs.

During its operational phase, the company aimed to establish a presence in different segments of the financial market by offering competitive financial products. This included services such as corporate financing, investment in marketable securities, and inter-corporate lending. Through these services, Tokyo Finance Limited participated in the growth of small and medium-sized enterprises as well as larger corporations by providing access to structured finance solutions.
