About KPIT Technologies Ltd.

KPIT Technologies is a leading global software integration company focused on the automotive and mobility ecosystem.

History

KPIT Technologies was founded during Pune’s startup boom of the late 1980s by chartered accountants Mr. Ravi Pandit and Mr. Kishor Patil. Initially focused on IT services, KPIT Infosystems went public in 1999 with an IPO oversubscribed 50 times. Over 2002–2013, KPIT expanded its client base and strengthened its engineering capabilities in the automotive sector through acquisitions like CG Smith, TVS Harita Mechanical Engineering, and Germany’s in2Soft Diagnostics. In 2013, it rebranded as KPIT Technologies and entered mobility software with products like REVOLO and Intelligent Transportation Systems.

In 2018, KPIT underwent a strategic merger-demerger with Birlasoft to concentrate purely on automotive and mobility software. Post restructuring, KPIT divested over 70% of its business to sharpen its focus. Its renewed vision, "Reimagining Mobility with You," highlights its commitment to creating cleaner, smarter, and safer transportation globally. Following the demerger, KPIT was listed on Indian stock exchanges with a new corporate identity.

Market Positioning

KPIT Technologies, with a market cap of ₹38,369 crore, holds a significant position among India’s mid-cap IT and automotive software companies. It ranks 15th within the IT software sector by market cap.

Future Outlook for KPIT Technologies Ltd.

KPIT continues to see strong growth opportunities driven by its leadership in software-defined vehicle programs, rising demand from Asia and passenger car segments, and partnerships like its recent engagement with Mercedes-Benz. In FY25, revenue reached $691 million with 18.7% growth, while EBITDA grew 24% YoY. With a $280 million TCV win in Q4, the company expects medium-term revenue growth of 18–20% as client visibility improves and expansion continues in China, Europe, and key global markets.

Risks and Challenges

KPIT faces risks from global automotive demand cycles, especially if original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) reduce R&D budgets. Rising competition from both global IT giants and specialised software firms could impact market share. Currency fluctuations may affect earnings due to international revenues. Client concentration risk remains, as a few large clients contribute significantly to total revenue. In addition, rapid technological changes in mobility software require continuous investment in R&D, which could pressure margins if not well-managed.
